What Sets Us Apart

“Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius – and a lot of courage – to move in the opposite direction.”

– E.F. Schumacher

In-Depth Client Relationships – We build strong, close, and trusted relationships with our clients. We help them work towards financial freedom and enjoy their lives, now and in retirement. Therefore, we limit the number of individuals and families we work with at Pillar.

Focus on Planning – Long-term financial success is nearly impossible without knowing where you are, where you are going, and how you plan to get there. Sure, you could get lucky, but why rely on luck when there is a more defined path. Before we make any recommendations, we help you identify and organize your assets and debt, summarize your current income and expenses (including taxes), define your financial goals, and bring everything into a cohesive financial plan. Only then do we move onto your investments.

Strong Professional Credentials - Pillar is one of very few fiduciary, fee-only financial advisor firms in Louisville or Lexington that brings together the three critical disciplines you need to plan your retirement. We have a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), and two Chartered Financial Analysts (CFAs). Together we can help you make the right retirement decisions.

Investment Management – Investments can only serve to support your plan; they can never be the plan themselves. We believe your investment experience will be significantly different – in a right way – from what you typically find. Your well thought out plan will lead to clear guidelines for your investments. We use your guide to manage your finances in an efficient, disciplined manner to put you in the best position to reach your goals.

Ongoing Plan Management – Let’s face it, plans change as life unfolds. With your help, we perform a complete plan update and investment review at least annually (more often, if necessary). This annual review aims to measure the plan’s progress and determine if any changes have occurred in your life that may warrant a change to the program.

Staying the Course – We recommend a plan that we believe will have a high likelihood of success. In our experience, the biggest roadblock to a financial plan’s success is our behavior. Regardless of how well a plan is constructed, how steeped and logical it is, we are all human. Our emotions can and will get in the way, causing us to panic or get greedy at the worst possible time. One of the most valuable roles we serve is to keep you from making those big, emotion-driven mistakes that we are all prone to during stock market volatility.

Personal CFO – Our service to you doesn’t start or stop with our core services. We are always available to assist with any of your financial questions, decisions, or problems, large or small.

Acting in Your Best Interest – It should go without saying that everything we do is always in your best interest. Unfortunately, that is not how some of the financial services industries work. Large segments of our chosen profession are not held to a fiduciary standard to place your interests first. We have always been and will always be a fiduciary to our clients.

Simplifying Your Life - You likely don’t want to spend your leisure time keeping up with tax code changes or researching retirement strategies.  We will take that responsibility away from you and communicate with you regularly to ensure you’re on track and to help you adapt to changing conditions or life events.
